The fascinating grotesque of Mikhail Shemyakin
A collection of jewelry miniatures by Mikhail Shemyakin, created along with the jewelry house SASONKO, will soon appear In Russia. The collection consists of women's jewelry, Christmas toys and the sculptures of small forms. "We have been keeping an eye on Mikhail Shemyakin's art for a long time and we consider him to be one of the most outstanding artists of our time. It is a great honor for me to work with him, and I am sure that the project will arouse genuine interest among connoisseurs of both jewelry and fine arts," comments Mikhail Sasonko.
The unique images created by Mikhail Shemyakin have been embodied in three lines.
The first trend—sketches of costumes and scenery Shemyakin to the ballet productions "The Nutcracker" and "Magic Nut" in the Mariinsky Theater. According to sketches for the ballet, brooches, pendants, earrings and rings were created.
The second line of the collection is associated with the carnivals of St. Petersburg and Venice, the constant theme of Shemyakin's art and the basis of many theatrical processions and artist's performances. In this series - decorative carved stone busts of carnival characters.
The third trend of the collection is metaphysical images based on works in which Shemyakin seeks a sign, synthesizing the cult of different peoples and times. Works from the series "Metaphysical head" are transformed into colored brooches and pendants.
"The first thing that interested me in the project with the jewelry house SASONKO - a high professional level, the skill of transforming the author's ideas in the metal. Besides this, it is interesting for me to create jewelry for beautiful women. Having traveled the whole world, I can say for sure that the most beautiful women live in Russia, "says Mikhail Shemyakin.
The collection's presumption took place at the 41st Russian Antique Salon (October 15-23, 2016, Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val, Moscow)
